The band would like to extend their thanks to everyone who made it down to Debut Club last night and made it so special! Everyone had a fantastic time and it was a superb way to prepare for Saturday's Hard Rock Calling gig, supporting the legend Stevie Wonder.

The band played a new track called Rock Dust Light Star which has already found it's way on to YouTube :)

The set list was:

	Revolution,
	When You Gonna Learn,
If I Like It I Do It,
	Light Years,
	Virtual Insanity,
	Too Young To Die,
	Little L,
	Alright,
	Hooked Up,
	Corner Of The Earth,
	Space Cowboy,
	Cosmic Girl,
	Rock Dust Light Star,
	Love Foolosophy,
	Just Another Story,
	Deeper Underground

As you can see, it was a full set - the band were simply enjoying themselves too much to leave the stage.

You can find photos of the event at theJamiroquai Flickr page. Thank you to David Rowe at funkin.com for taking the pics.

If you're uploading your own photos or videos from the event then please tag them 'Jamiroquai Debut' then we can collect them together.

And please tell us what you thought of the ticketing system? It was the first time we tried paperless ticketing and we thought it went OK - what do you think?

Jay Kay, Jamiroquai singer and patron of the Captive Animals’ Protection Society, (CAPS), has donated a signed limited edition, autographed t-shirt in a bid to raise funds for the animal protection charity.

Jay Kay said: “I have been patron of CAPS for several years now and have seen the difference their campaign work makes in helping to change the public’s attitude towards animals used in the entertainment industry. I fully support the proposed ban of wild animals in circuses, and hope that the signed Jamiroquai t-shirt will go some way in helping raise some much- needed funds.”

The t-shirt is one of only 250, and the only one signed by Jay Kay, and has ‘Emergency on Plant Earth’ as its logo, which adds to its value.

shame the F1 Championship has already been decided but we're sure every

reckons, "On balance, I think Jenson deserved it. He was incredible in
Brazil and showed everyone he's got real class."

Jamiroquai played a storming set at the Malaysian Grand Prix on Sunday. An estimated 25,000 people stayed to watch the gig which took place immediately after the Formula One event. The race was abandoned due a severe downpour which meant a lot of mud underfoot but that didn't seem to affect the wet, but completely up-for-it crowd. Jay watched the race from the relative comfort of the Ferrari pit but unfortunately for the team, Massa only came 9th.

Last year Jay accepted the offer to become Patron of the Captive Animals Protection Society. CAPS caught up with him to find why he agreed to become patron and what he really thinks about zoos and circuses. Read the interview here.

Jay is also supporting one of his fellow CAPS patrons, Fiona Oakes who will be running in the London Marathon to raise funds for CAPS. Jay said: “I’m fully behind Fiona in this. She’s committed to raising awareness of captive animal issues and much needed funding for CAPS, by running this marathon. I’d encourage everyone to sponsor her. It’s amazing that in this day and age we still think it’s okay to lock animals up in circuses or zoos, or keep exotic animals as pets. Animals are not on this planet for our entertainment or idle curiosity.”

Hi everyone
Well, it feels like summer in the UK doesn't want to start but I'm glad to say that hasn't stopped us enjoying the sunshine at many superb festivals around Europe. The next show is in Budapest which we're all hugely looking forward to. My sincere thanks to everyone who has seen one of the shows and posted such positive comments on the Party People forum - we haven't played any new material but instead decided to re-work some of the older stuff which seems to have gone down well - at least from where I was standing. And I also have to thank everyone for congratulating me on my Top Gear triumph! It felt good to knock Mr Cowell off the top spot!! Well, you wouldn't expect anything less would you??

Can you create a Jamiroquai SMS biography?

Here at Jamiroquai.com we've got a few biographies for the band - the first is the full biography that was updated with the release of the High Times greatest hits album and as you can imagine for a band that's been around as long as Jamiroquai, there's plenty to say.

We've shortened it down and made a short biography but wanted to see if we could squeeze it into something the size of a SMS (text) message for a mobile/cell phone. Cell phone SMS messages have a maximum of 160 characters (unless you use alphabets such as Chinese) so we've had a go and created an SMS (single message) sized biography:

Jamiroquai lead by JK r UK No1 funk, jazz n soul band 7 albums 3 dvds 26 hit singles +5mtv, grammy & I novello. www.Jamiroquai.com 4 mr

We're sure you, the fans can do better, so we'd like you to have a think and try and write a mini SMS-sized biography for the band. Please include as much information as you can into the "message" and we'll then pick a selection of your efforts and add them onto Jamiroquai.com. We will also pick out a few random entries and send out some Jamiroquai goodies to say thank you.

It's not really a competition, there's no first place prize or anything - we just want to see what you can think of and squeeze into no more than 160 characters (if you go over this limit by a few characters we won't get upset!). The only other rule is that you must include the word "Jamiroquai" in full and also "jamiroquai.com" (or "www.jamiroquai.com").

Please don't post your "entries" as a comment to this news item, you must post them on the dedicated thread over at the Jam Party People forum.

Have fun.

"I was always seduced by the sound of the Yoruba language and the
way it was expressed within the drumming. When a Yoruba drummer plays,
it's not just music: he's talking, reciting, teasing, invoking and
praising. These qualities open up other worlds of interest for
me that go beyond music: worlds that lead me to history, to the essence
of my people".

Jay becomes a patron of the Captive Animals Protection Society

This week Jay agreed to become a patron of the Captive Animals Protection Society (CAPS). Established in 1957, CAPS is one of the UK's leading campaigning organisations on behalf of animals in circuses, zoos and other entertainment industries. A lifelong animal-lover, Jay told us "In the 21st Century there should be no place in our world for zoos or circuses that use animals. The conditions these animals are kept in are often beyond words. Just imagine yourself being locked behind bars for the rest of your life for human entertainment." CAPS is against the use of all performing animals in circuses and wishes to see animal circuses outlawed. CAPS seeks to prevent the use and expolitation of captive and performing animals and investigations are a crucial part of their work. Although based in the UK, CAPS supplies information, photographs, video footage and other support to individuals and organisations throughout the world. CAPS told us "We feel sure that animals have benefitted from our work over the last 50 years, and, in Britain at least, there is evidence that captive animals are being afforded a greater degree of respect and understanding, but we still have a lot of work to do." For more information on CAPS, click here

Here are a number of photos from the concert held on 7 March at Scala in London. The gig was part of the band's partnership with Intel. The set-list was as follows:

Cosmic Girl, Space Cowboy, High Times, Black Capricorn Day, Little L, Radio, Feels Just Like It Should, Use The Force, If I Like It, I Do It, Travelling Without Moving, Love Foolosophy, Main Vein, Time Won't Wait, Deeper Underground, Virtual Insanity (Encore)
The concert was made available to watch at the Capital Radio (London) website and they sent listeners Amanda Milne and her sister Tracy along to review the gig for the station. Amanda writes...
"This was the 2nd time that I?ve seen Jamiroquai perform and the best!"
"I was lucky enough to be one of the select few at the exclusive gig on Wednesday night. I was Capital FM?s "culture vulture" for the evening and only found out at 5pm so was really excited, especially as my sister and I got to meet the lovely Jay Kay afterwards."
"The venue was amazing; it was such an intimate gig with the band squeezed onto a tiny stage. There were screens up displaying the Jamiroquai/Intel logos and the atmosphere of the crowd was great. We were all singing and dancing to the hits?although no one?s dancing was as funky as Jay Kay?s! "
"They performed all the classics kicking it off with Cosmic Girl. It was great to hear Jay say that the band aren?t retiring, so hopefully I?ll get to a lot more gigs in the future and look forward to hearing their new material. They rocked!"
Here is a video stream of Cosmic Girl (RealVideo: Lo/Hi - Windows Media: Lo/Hi) and below are a number of photos from the concert taken by David Rowe.

Gig In The Sky Gallery 2 - On The Plane

After returning home from the Gig In The Sky we asked some of the band what equipment they used on the plane and what they thought of it all. Here is what they had to say...
Matt Johnson - Keyboards:I'd say overall it was an amazing experience but I must admit when the plane started to rock I wondered if our actions had angered the gods! If they'd meant us to play up there they would have given us wings!
I used a Wurlitzer for the gig, it actually belongs to Jay. I normally love to play them, and it was fun doing a stripped down gig.
Rob Harris - Guitar:Flying for me will never be the same again. Even on the way back to the UK I kept thinking "I've played my guitar on one of these things and I?ll probably never get the chance to do it again
I had a smaller gear set up on the plane consisting of a small 20 watt Mesa Boogie amp 1 guitar and just 2 pedals (a wah and a booster pedal). We were a little short on space but it was nice to just have the basics. I thought Derrick?s kit sounded huge and it was nice to be sat right in front of him. I can remember playing and trying to focus on the new arrangements we had done but once in a while looking out of the window seeing the clouds and getting sidetracked. I think some of the other guys experienced this too, after around 20 minutes I began to feel light headed and a bit dizzy - must have been something to do with cabin pressure.
There was something quite unnatural about it and also there was the unknowns such as... "can a plane handle low bass frequencies, will some of the windows crack if we hit anything above a C note" Ok , I know I?m getting carried away lol. The whole experience was fun. I feel proud to have been part of it and I can tell my grandkids that I?m in the Guinness Book Of Records.
Paul Turner - Bass Guitar:Instead of using my Aguilar amplification I used a combo by Mark Bass as they make very light weight bass amps & speakers. Unlike other digital models Mark Bass sounds very good and it's size and weight made it ideal with the specific logistical limitations.
Bass wise I used my new 5 string Alleva Coppolo Jazz bass. Although always prefer my beloved old Fender Jazz 4 string I didn't know what tunes we'd play and so thought I should just use a 5 in case.
The gig was fun, if a little strange. There were some buzzes and feedback but considering what we were doing it went very well and was a good laugh.
Derrick McKenzie - Drums:Playing on the plane was definitely an experience, and playing on such a small kit was fantastic!!!!! It brought me back to my days with Candyland [Derrick played with this band before Jamiroquai] which is a band I played in before joining urban species. I did a couple of years playing with just a kick drum, hi hat, one crash cymbal and a ride cymbal. I used the kit from sent to me from Yamaha, which was a fantastic 22" maple kick together with my 14x5 maple snare drum. Thank you Gavin and Felicity for being so accommodating.
Here are a number of photos from the flight from Munich to Athens, taken by David Rowe, our resident photographer....

OK, so there is a story in the Mirror newspaper (UK) implying Jay is quitting the music business: Needless to say they?ve got it completely wrong! You see, in a quick chat with one of the paper?s journalists following his record breaking Gig in the Sky yesterday, Jay mentioned he was taking time out to update his home studio and take some time off before the band go back in to start writing a new album later in the year. He also talked about working on new arrangements of songs so next time they go out on tour they have fresh take on the tracks they play live perhaps incorporating strings or horns. Perhaps they should listen next time! When they gonna learn? On seeing the way his chat was reported today in the Mirror Jay said ?As usual they got it wrong for a cheap headline! All I said was that we?re taking a bit of time out to get the studio refurbished and we?ll be back making music in a few months time. There?s no way I?m quitting the music business - now I am out of my long contract with SonyBMG we have so many options open to us we?re just going to take our time and get it right - its just getting interesting!?

Now that we have touched back down after the Gig In The Sky we are currently sorting through out photos and other information from this multi-record breaking event.
Up in the air Jamiroquai broke six world records - highest ever concert, fastest ever concert, highest ever recording, fastest ever recording, highest gig in a plane and fastest gig in a plane. All were officially recorded by the Guinness Book Of Records.
We'll have more photos and information to put online soon, but right now here's a quote we got right after the gig in Athens from Rachael S. and Charlotte W. from England, who won tickets on Capital Radio...

"Having never been to a Jamiroquai concert, I was blown away by the charismatic and energetic performance by all."

Gig in the Sky - Just Landed!

Jamiroquai have just landed in.....Athens, Greece, after what was an amazing gig by all accounts. Upon boarding the specially adapted plane in Munich, attendees were greeted by air stewardesses in "Cosmic Girl" uniforms! Upon take-off, the overhead lockers opened up to reveal flashing disco lights. Jamiroquai performed at the front of the plane where the first 6 or 7 rows of seats had been removed. Guests had to remain in their seats, presumably for health and safety reasons, but as there was a camera crew filming the performance, they could still see everything from tv screens throughout the plane. There was a small bit of turbulence during the performance but like a true professional, Jay simply clung onto an overhead locker and carried on. It's now official, Jamiroquai have entered the Guinness Book of Records - for The Highest Ever Gig! During the flight, a meal of chicken was served with chocolate mousse for dessert. There was 10 golden Tickets amongst the dinners served, with the lucky recipients winning the chance to meet and greet the band. Nobody went away empty-handed though - everyone got the new Sony Ericsson mobile phone and special Gig in the Sky commerative bag. We will be uploading photos and video as they come in, but for now, here's the full setlist - Jamiroquai played for 30 minutes
1. Radio - this was the first time Radio was played live!
2. Feels Just Like it Should
3. High Times
4. If I Like it I do it

Gig in the Sky - latest news

After being flown out to Munich from their respective locations, the Gig in the Sky competition winners checked in for the mystery-destination flight eager with anticipation for what the unplugged gig and afterparty might bring. The winners, and the band, are currently mid-flight, having taken off from Munich at roughly 15.00 GMT. Of the winners, the furthest travelled has to be a group of six from Johannesburg, South Africa. Two of the group, David and Rudy, said that after leaving South Africa at 8pm on Monday night it had been a long journey but that it was well worth it! Guests were each given a free bag with their name on it and funky Jamiroquai embroidery accross the front. A collectors item already, no doubt! As soon as the plane lands in the secret destination, Jamiroquai.com will be uploading more pictures, news and the full setlist so check back soon. Upon landing, Jamiroquai will be proud holders of a World Record for the Highest Ever Gig. Safe trip Jamiroquai!

If you were sat at home on Saturday night there was only one thing worth doing - watching Jamiroquai rock the house on BBC television show Strictly Come Dancing.
Jay and the rest of the band, including backing singers, a brass and string section, were dressed to perfection in tuxedos and evening dresses (for the girls!), and performed a fantastic fully live version of Canned Heat. Out of all of the musical performances this series on the show, Jamiroquai are the only band to have performed fully live with no backing tracks etc.
Half way through the song, the band were joined by professional dancers Darren Bennett and Lilia Kopylova on the dance floor - and these two certainly had Canned Heat in their heels.
For those who missed the show, we don't have the video directly here to show you but it is available on sites such as YouTube.com.

After television cameras and the stage for all the band is setup, it is expected that the capacity on the night will be only 200 people - so this will definitely be the hottest ticket in town!

Please note that the prize is for concert tickets only and does not include any travel or accomodation. PLEASE ENSURE THAT YOU CAN ACTUALLY GET TO LONDON ON THE DATE BEFORE ENTERING!
PLEASE NOTE THAT YOU MUST BE OVER 18 YEARS OF AGE TO ATTEND THE GIG, AND THAT PHOTOGRAPHIC ID WILL BE REQUIRED IN ORDER TO GAIN ENTRY.
The competition closes on Tuesday 17th October and all winners will be notified via email that week. PLEASE ENSURE THAT YOUR EMAIL ADDRESS IS CORRECT IN YOUR JAMIROQUAI.COM PROFILE.

High Times: Singles 1992-2006 announcement

On Monday 6 November (please note updated release date) Jamiroquai release "High Times: Singles 1992-2006" - a singles collection which contains 16 huge hits from Jamiroquai?s extraordinary career to date, plus two new tracks.
A slice of classic Jamiroquai, with it's shimmering disco strings and infectious bass line, 'Runaway' is the first of two brand new tracks on this first ever Jamiroquai hits compilation - the second track being the hard edged kinky funk of "Radio" - further proof that Jamiroquai have still got plenty of fuel in the tank.
15 years in the making, and taking in early acid jazz of Top 10 debut, Too Young To Die, and the politically conscious Emergency On Planet Earth, through to massive global hits such as Cosmic Girl and Virtual Insanity, to the shimmering disco of Little L, Canned Heat and Love Foolosophy, via the thumping No. 1 smash Deeper Underground, 'High Times - The Singles Collection' is a timely reminder of the sheer strength and depth of Jamiroquai's back catalogue. In an age when a 'Greatest Hits' album often means 4 or 5 genuine hits and an awful lot of filler, it's testament to how long the often under appreciated Jamiroquai have been at the top of their game.
After 159 weeks on the UK singles chart, 232 weeks on the albums chart, more than 20 million album sales and five mammoth world tours - playing to more than 5 million people in 38 countries - and that's before you even get to the 5 MTV awards, the Grammy, the Ivor Novello Award and the well documented rock and roll lifestyle, it's fair to say that, Jay Kay, the quick stepping 37 year-old professionally known as Jamiroquai, is one of the UK's greatest musical exports of the last 20 years.
A special edition of the album will also be available containing various Jamiroquai remixes, including the classic David Morales remix of Space Cowboy (which to this day is still Kiss FM's most played song of all time). A DVD of all Jamiroquai videos ever made will be simultaneously released on Sony BMG - this will feature extra tracks, hits not contained on the CD album such as 'Stillness In Time' and 'Half The Man'.
Stay tuned to Jamiroquai.com to get full details of each of the formats being released.

Jay has designed this 15-piece limited edition collection in conjunction with HUGO Creative Director Volker Kachele. Featuring items such as leather jackets, racing gloves, slimline shirts, boot-cut pants like those he wears whilst performing, and a super cool weekender bag, Jay believes this range reflects his own personal life and style.
We at Jamiroquai.com love what he's done, and from November 2006 the collection will be available in limited quantities from selected HUGO and HUGO BOSS stores worldwide.
If you like this range, then wait what's planned for the next installment of the JK for HUGO range - planned for summer 2007.

Derrick McKenzie, Matt Johnson & Rob Harris took some time out to answer a few quick-fire questions after their gig at the Skanderborg Festival in Denmark on 12/08/06...Here's what they had to say...
Highlights from the past year of touring?
"B-Live & Lovebox. With Lovebox, it was a local gig and everyone seemed to enjoy it and we got to play a few new tunes!" - Rob Harris
What do you think of the summer remixes?
"We like Tom Belton's Comic Girl Remix, he's done a really good remix of one of the new tracks too..." - Matt Johnson
Most memorable moment of your summer so far?
"Playing Argentina - because we hadn't been there for five or six years, to go back and get that sort of reception was fantastic, so for me, that was like a really good highlight" - Derrick McKenzie
"Russia and the Ukraine were good. We had some amazing food in Georgia - we got taken out for some amazing meals! It's just nice to play somewhere you haven't been before " - Rob Harris
Any particular message for fans who've come to see Jamiroquai over the summer?
"We just want to thank everyone for coming to see us and for their support over the years. It'll probably be the last time we do that particular set so we look forward to new beginings and a whole new set!" - Matt Johnson

Hi everyoneWell, what a year 2005 was! I've just had a great break over Christmas and January and am now fully recharged, ready to go again! Thank you all once again for the fantastic support you gave Jamiroquai last year and the amazing welcome you gave us at all of our gigs. I really can?t say which was the best since they were all so special! However, amongst the highlights include our gig on Clapham Common in London, because i love outdoors gigs and the sun was shining and so you could feel a great vibe around the place. Also, it was good to play in the US again. The crowds were great and when you think it?s such a long time since we last played there everyone seemed to know all the songs as well as we do! But like i say, all the gigs were so special that I really can?t say any gig was ?best? since every one of them had something memorable about it, and I?m sure the rest of the band would agree.
So, anyway, I?m having a drink to you guys out there and I?m looking forward to 2006 and perhaps playing somewhere close to you again soon
