A message to everyone from Jay

on 14/08/2008

Hi everyone
Well, it feels like summer in the UK doesn't want to start but I'm glad to say that hasn't stopped us enjoying the sunshine at many superb festivals around Europe. The next show is in Budapest which we're all hugely looking forward to. My sincere thanks to everyone who has seen one of the shows and posted such positive comments on the Party People forum - we haven't played any new material but instead decided to re-work some of the older stuff which seems to have gone down well - at least from where I was standing. And I also have to thank everyone for congratulating me on my Top Gear triumph! It felt good to knock Mr Cowell off the top spot!! Well, you wouldn't expect anything less would you??

I hear what your saying and you might be right ...BUT... They're artist....which means they will take different directions,in order to grow.I personally, am glad they change their style. How boring if they stayed the same.I would have stopped listening years ago.Sure Jay lost the plot for a while.Any human being with an ego would given the circumstances. We must remember they are just people like you and me. Can't wait for the next album..it's going to be different again. YAH

you can't prescribe someones style of setting his life into music without taking artistic freedom

I know this will be terribly controversial. But I have to say this: It´s so sad what Jamiroquai had become, and what Jay Kay have done to it. A once original, inovative and unique acid Jazz band had a perfect clear environmental message and a music style filled with jazz elements such as the rhodes sound, flutes, trumpets, voice solos and so on. Nowadays Jamiroquai not only lost its unique jazzy line up we all terribly miss but also his message to the point of losing completely its identity. I think we all agree AFO was very bad because turned the band into pop, but definitely the worst was Dynamite - pure rubbish filled with pop rock and some bad electronica. Even the unconditional Jamiroquai Rhodes sound disapeared. I remember when I first heard it I thought I had downloaded the wrong musics. So part of the reason why Jamiroquai changed so much it is on Jay Kay. Even him can not hide his own huge differences, starting on his once melodic wide ranged voice turning into a raspy tabbaco sound, and his once funky retro style rooted on a poor ideological kid turning into a luxurious arrogant guy making this teenie music at the level of idiots like Justin Timberlake. The changes are so wide that become into an hipocrisy - an "environmentalist" man with a wide collection of highly pollutive cars. I think what is behind all this are 2 factors. First one, It is undeniable Zender and Smith were so important as Jay was back on those years, and its lost basicly ended Jamiroquai sound. And finally, the main reason, the one always behind all problems ... the money. The band would not sell with their original line up, and Jay understood this perfectly. So he got dependent of all his luxuries to the point of making music for money and not making music that he really likes. Yes, personally I don´t think Jay Kay is doing what he really likes, his soul is funk acid jazz and we can see that watching 90´s performances, but the cars, the cribs, the girls ... simply got him dependent. So I am sorry all this huge text but as an original jamiroquai deep fan I had to express my huge disappointment with the line of the band. I mean, leave the pop crap for Teenie Timberlakes... Jamiroquai proved to be on another level. Cheers
